Practicing Taekwondo during a heatwave can be challenging, but it’s important to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Here are some tips on how to practice Taekwondo in a heatwave season:
Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water before, during, and after your Taekwondo practice. It’s recommended to drink 16-20 ounces of water at least two hours before the practice and then 7-10 ounces every 10-20 minutes during practice.
Wear lightweight, breathable clothing: Choose clothing that is lightweight, loose-fitting, and made of breathable fabric that allows air to circulate around your body. Avoid dark-colored clothing that absorbs heat and wear light-colored clothing that reflects heat away from your body.
Avoid the hottest times of day: Try to schedule your Taekwondo practice during the coolest part of the day, either early in the morning or late in the evening.
Take frequent breaks: Take frequent breaks to rest in a shaded or air-conditioned area. This will help your body cool down and prevent heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
Use cooling towels or fans: Use cooling towels or fans to help lower your body temperature. You can also apply cold water or ice packs to your pulse points, such as your wrists, neck, and temples.
Adjust your training intensity: Reduce your training intensity or take breaks if you start to feel dizzy, lightheaded, or nauseous. Listen to your body and don’t push yourself too hard in extreme heat.
By following these tips, you can safely practice Taekwondo during a heatwave season and enjoy the benefits of this martial art without putting yourself at risk for heat-related illnesses.
